Frequently Asked Questions
How do underwater photoshoots work?
I design the underwater photoshoot to fit your comfort level in the ocean. Whether you’re a professional diver or barely know how to swim, we can create something beautiful.
We meet at a beach that matches your skill level and have a quick conversation about basic safety and posing tips. I want you to be safe, comfortable, and relaxed throughout the shoot. I’ll never ask you to do long breath holds or push your limits. Usually we do a bunch of quick dips just below the surface where the light is most beautiful.
For most shoots, we will swim a little off shore for clear calm water. I bring a buoy with storage space and for flotation so that you can rest whenever you are tired. Time in the ocean is usually just under an hour or so, but it is best to set aside two hours for the whole process.
Can I show you example images of what I want?
Yes! If you have reference or inspo images of the kind of photos that you would like, please share them with me. I am very good at breaking down exactly what is needed to achieve any look or style.
Where are you based and do you travel?
I'm based on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii, and shoot all over the island of Oahu. And yes, I love to travel! I'm always down for new adventures and going wherever the work takes me. Let's shoot something epic together!
How do you deliver the photographs?
All packages come with free digital delivery. You will receive a private link to a password-protected online gallery where you can download all of your photos directly in various resolution options. You can also share the photos with family & friends and social media, and order a wide variety of cards and prints directly from your online gallery.
How does photo ownership and licensing work?
I deliver the full high-resolution digital image files to my clients for all of my photoshoots. You can order prints directly from my website, or you can take the high-resolution digital image files to any photo printer you like.
My standard contract grants the client unlimited personal-use license and almost unlimited commercial-use license for all images delivered to the client. The only limitation is direct reselling of the images. Basically, the photographer technically owns the image copyrights, but the client has license to use the images however they like personally or to promote their business, product, or brand.
If you are a commercial client that requires ownership rights, that will be arranged. Please contact me.
When will we get our photos?
You will receive a private link to your online photo gallery about 4 weeks after your shoot in general, but please refer to your quote for current timing. Rush delivery is also available for a fee.
How many pictures will we receive?
Please refer to the pricing page to see how many photos come with your package. All photos will be delivered in both high and low resolution formats so that you can order large prints or share online with ease.
Where is a good place to shoot photographs?
I love shooting outdoors in natural light, especially at the beach, hiking trails, and parks. If you have an idea for a location, then I am happy to shoot anywhere! I can also provide a few location options if you want suggestions. If you want to get away from the crowds, that generally means getting out of Waikiki. For underwater, I usually shoot on the north shore or west side.
What should I wear for our portrait photoshoot?
Photoshoots can vary widely, so make sure we discuss wardrobe in advance if you have any questions. For portrait shoots in general, it’s good to wear something dressy but simple and comfortable. Avoid logos and very fine stripes. Some color can be great. Please don’t feel the need to match your entire group in white shirts or the like. If you want, you can text or email me some options that you are considering ahead of time.
What is your weather policy?
There is no charge to reschedule due to weather. If extended bad weather makes rescheduling impossible, I will provide a full refund.
When is the best time to shoot photos?
Usually lighting tends to be better in the early morning and late afternoon. I usually like to shoot during the couple hours before sunset for portrait sessions. Cloudy weather can provide beautiful soft light no matter what time of day we shoot. For underwater sessions I usually shoot during the 3 hours before sunset for the best light.
How do you handle payment?
Payments are accepted via credit card. A deposit is required to reserve your shoot. The remainder is due before the shoot date.
Do you photograph weddings?
Yes! I love shooting smaller, more intimate weddings and elopements. I also enjoy doing adventure photoshoots (hiking, swimming, etc.) with couples in the days before or after the wedding.
Can I change wardrobe during the shoot?
Yes. There is no additional charge for outfit changes.
What kind of camera do you use?
I am currently shooting with Sony A1 and A7RIV cameras with Sony G Master lenses. I shoot in the RAW format for maximum flexibility in color grading. My underwater rigs are made by AquaTech Imaging Solutions. I'm happy to geek out about equipment if you're interested!
